As the GE Power Division looked toward the next generation of their power grid management application, they sought to create an innovative and efficient platform that would strengthen their position as industry leaders. With thoughtful interaction, visual, and motion design, Blink UX delivered a foundational product strategy and future vision for GE.
Primarily used to monitor power flow, this application prioritized simplicity, efficiency, and clarity to create a powerful utility that ensures fast and proactive restoration of power. To envision this product, user flows such as planning a repair, reviewing requests, and exploring work orders, were explored. Field research, prototypes, and workshops allowed our team to learn and iterate our thinking and design over time.
Frequently displayed on multiple monitors and in a dark environment, we implemented clarity through color and purposeful motion was implemented to reduce cognitive load while drawing attention to timely and relevant interactions.
One signature example of this approach was the visualization of the power grid. Speed and color quickly provided operators a snapshot status of a power line, allowing them to focus on the areas that most needed their attention.
Field operators may also utilize this product while working on repairs. To account for this use case and create contrast in bright situations, we developed a light mode color palette that created the same visual hierarchy as our dark mode.
